Call on OSCE Minsk Group to Take Action on Armenian POWs & Azeri Occupation

The Armenian Youth Federation of Canada is coming forward with the below action alert directed to the OSCE Minsk Group members regarding the Armenian POWs who continue to be held in captivity by Azerbaijan.

Your Excellencies,

I urge you to quickly take action on an urgent matter concerning the security and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia. On May 12, Azerbaijan sent members of its armed forces to violate the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia by occupying parts of Armenia’s Syunik and Gegharkunik provinces. 

This violation is a continuation of  Azerbaijan’s aggressive expansionism that started with the invasion and occupation of the Republic of Artsakh in September-November of 2020. Since then Azerbaijan still holds over 200 POWs illegally and in horrid conditions. Azerbaijan's continuous aggression is further destabilizing and jeopardizing the security of the South Caucasus.

As of writing this letter, Azerbaijani forces continue occupying parts of the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia. Since May 12th, they have killed an Armenian serviceman and have taken 6 servicemen as prisoners. These violations must be met with a swift and effective response from the international community.

As the representatives of OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries, I trust that you will take the appropriate steps to ensure the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia and the safety, security and self-determination of the Republic of Artsakh.
