On October 27, 2020, Senator Leo Housakos (Quebec) introduced a motion in the Senate of Canada, calling on the government to recognize the independence of the Republic of Artsakh.

The motion includes calls to:
- Immediately condemn the joint Azerbaijani-Turkish tyrannical regimes and their aggression against the Republic of Artsakh.
- Call upon the Government of Canada to uphold a permanent ban on military exports to Turkey.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your powerful stance in condemning Azerbaijan and Turkey's unprovoked aggression against the innocent Armenian civilians in the Republic of Artsakh.

Canada is home to a significant number of Armenians who are greatly impacted by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Artsakh. We were shaken to learn that Azerbaijan and Turkey have actively targeted civilian infrastructure, civilians and journalists, using heavy artillery and drones equipped with Canadian made technology. Thank you for urging the Government of Canada to instate a permanent ban on military exports to Turkey.

As a Canadian-Armenian, I appreciate your role in introducing a Senate Motion on Tuesday October 27, 2020, to call on the Government of Canada to recognize the Republic of Artsakh's right to self determination and independence. As a globally recognized peacekeeping nation, Canada must stand up to these tyrannical regimes and their blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights.
